Biddy Early - A Folk Opera Composed for Kinvara Community Orchestra by Stephen Johnston, with additional lyrics by Helen Lane, ‘Biddy Early’ will have its premiere at Kinvara Community Centre, on December 2nd and 3rd 2023, under the baton of Garry O’Briain.
The folk opera, performed by 9 singers and over 40 musicians, explores the extraordinary life of herbalist and clairvoyant Biddy Early, of Co. Clare. With an orchestration that is unashamedly romantic, the style is rooted in Irish traditional music, ballads and airs. Kinvara Community Orchestra (KCO) was founded in 2020 by Fiona Buckley as a community initiative. The Orchestra operates under the patronage of Tigh Sayre, Kinvara and Gort Resource Centre. KCO is very grateful to Creative Ireland and Galway County Arts Office for their financial support for this production.
