Directory of Services for Older People - Age Friendly Programme
|
AGE FRIENDLY PROGRAMME The Community Section now has full delivery of the English & Irish versions of the Directory of Services for Older People, and any agency or group can contact the team at 091 509 521 to arrange to pick-up a number of copies for their local groups at our Centrepoint Offices. The Directory will also be circulated to older people via the Mobile Library and Community Gardai throughout the month. --------------------------------------------- Age Friendly Ireland is the organisation responsible for the national Age Friendly Programme, affiliated to the World Health Organization’s Global Network of Age Friendly Cities and Communities. Age Friendly Ireland operates as a shared service centre of local government hosted by Meath County Council. The shared service centre supports a network of 31 local Age Friendly Programmes which are led by local authorities. For more information, please visit https://agefriendlyireland.ie/
Age Friendly Galway County is delivered by Galway County Council and works to improve the services and facilities that our older people have identified as being important to them, and the wider community, as they live healthy and active lives. The programme involves a multiagency, multi-sectoral approach to age-related planning and service provision. Our projects, in partnership with other organisations and agencies, include: • Outdoor Spaces and Buildings • Transportation • Housing • Respect and Social Inclusion • Social Participation • Communication and Education • Civic Participation and Employment • Health and Wellbeing The key contributors to the age friendly programme are the Age Friendly Alliance and Galway County Older Peoples Council.
Our Age Friendly Alliance brings together older people and service providers to change thinking about aging and how services to our older people are planned and delivered.Older People’s Council is a critical part of the age friendly programme for Galway and includes representatives from older persons groups throughout the county. Its aims are to represent the voice of older people and to support and participate in the development of the County as a great place in which to grow old. The Directory of Services for Older People in Galway City & County provides a wealth of useful information not only for older people and their families, but also for carers and service providers. Its user-friendly format covers information on many of the activities, services, and supports available for older people in Galway City & County.
Read online Directory HERE.
